# The urge to build everything

> AI makes software easier to build. Who keeps it running? On internal tools, the SaaS-pocalypse, and choosing what your company should spend its time building.

AI (SI) has accelerated software development. Teams want to cut SaaS costs and build everything themselves, from CRMs to payment gateways. Reverse Engineer Anything (REA) helps agents inspect existing software and recreate features. ArtCraft is building a family of creative apps in Rust. An interactive sequence goes from an AI prompt to a CRM wireframe, a post announcing $100,000 in annual savings, and a pile of maintenance tickets. SaaS-pocalypse is the fear that AI will replace SaaS subscriptions with software teams build themselves. The essay follows Salesforce's decline and recovery in a sourced, interactive one-year chart. Some SaaS will die; some will get spoon-bent, with a link to Bending Spoons. Stripe reported over 180% year-over-year growth in new platform businesses over three months. At vostride, teams with homegrown testing tools describe recurring upkeep, expensive runs, and broken tests. We are building agent-qa, an open-source AI QA engineer, so they can get back to their products. Before replacing another subscription, ask who will look after it a year from now, and what they will have to stop doing.
